Hindu organisation’s march in Silchar; Demands capital punishment for the murderers of Rinku Sharma

25-year-old Delhi resident, Rinku Sharma was lynched next to his house in Mangolpuri. As reported by the Indian Express, five men — Zahid (26), Mehtaab (20), Danish (36), Islam (45) and Tazuddin (30) — have been arrested from the same locality so far. “According to police, while Danish and Islam worked as tailors, Tazuddin used to be a home guard at a police station 10 years ago. Police say the accused are related,” stated the Indian Express report.

The murder of the youth has irked the Hindu Organisations across the country as he was reportedly associated with a few of them including the Viswa Hindu Parishad. Manu Sharma, Rinku Sharma’s younger brother said that Rinku Sharma was lynched because of his associations with the Hindu Organisations active participation in the drive to collect funds for the Ram Mandir Nirman.

The Hindu organisations across the country have launched many protests programmes and the VHP announced that it would host programmes in at least 2500 locations to pay tribute to the 25-year-old cadre. In Silchar, “Hindu Rakkhi” organisation has held a march yesterday.

The members of the organisation started walking from National Highway Point in Silchar and marched till the foothills of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s statue in NS Avenue. The spokespeople of the organisation said that the protest march has been called to send a message of unity. “Rinku Sharma was lynched by a group of Muslims right in front of his mother’s eye. We have seen in a video circulating on social media that he was dragged out of him home and stabbed. We want to send a message to the extremists, that such instances won’t be tolerated by the Hindu community,” said a spokesperson of the organisation.

The members of the “Hindu Shakti” also issued a warning for the government. “If the murderers of Rinku Sharma are not hanged till death, the situation will get volatile and the Jihadis and Government of India will be responsible for that,” shared the organisation in a media statement.

While it has been alleged by the family members of Rinku Sharma that he was murdered because of his association with the Hindu Organisations, the Police differed.

Additional DCP (Outer) Sudhanshu Dhama said to Indian Express, “On Wednesday night, a scuffle broke out between the accused and victim at a birthday party over their food business. Both sides went home but the four accused went to the victim’s place later… Sharma and his brother were waiting outside. A heated argument led to a fight and one of the accused stabbed Sharma and fled. All other rumours around the incident are absolutely false.”

Manu Sharma, brother of Rinku Sharma also an eyewitness, said the Police is lying in order to plot a coverup. Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch.
