
Lightning Strike Kills Woman in Banskandi Badri Basti
A 44-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning in Banskandi, Cachar, on Sunday, March 15. The deceased has been identified as Pushpa Rani Goala, a resident of Badri Basti in the Banskandi area of Cachar district.
According to her husband Ram Dayal Goala, the incident took place at around 5 PM when Goala was returning home after attending a programme organised for the inauguration of the redeveloped Panchanan Shiv Mandir. The event was attended by Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai at Badri Basti.
While she was passing through an agricultural field, barely 200 metres away from her house, lightning struck during the sudden spell of rain and thunderstorm. Locals immediately rushed her to Burrows Memorial Christian Hospital (BMCH) in Alipur. However, doctors at the hospital declared her dead upon arrival.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the locality.
