Ramnagar Submerged! Hundreds of air passengers stuck midway, resorting to hotels or family members
What comes in as a major problem for the people of Barak Valley, the Ramnagar area which was largely dry has now submerged. What is worth mentioning here is that the water in Ramnagar area is rapidly rising, however, the water is not flowing from the direction of the river but from the other side.
It is being presumed by the locals that the water is receding from the town area and flowing into the Ramnagar zone.
Commuters from across the town were using the ISBT Bypass road to travel to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, NIT Silchar and other regions. Also, this is the road that connects Karimganj and Hailakandi with the Airport.
Air passengers are now stranded in Ramnagar area. Some are travelling to family members and acquaintances’ house while some are resorting to booking hotels.
“We tried cancelling our tickets but the Indigo authorities made it clear that they won’t consider this as a cancellation against natural calamities and so, charges need to be paid. Astonishing that the air passengers are forced to travel even though there is water on the roads,” said a passenger.
