
Rs 1 Crore Suspected Drug Haul: Sribhumi Police Arrest Two in Night Raid
Sribhumi Police seized around 500 grams of suspected heroin and arrested two alleged drug traffickers, including a local Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader, during a joint operation carried out by Badarpur and Kaliganj police stations on Tuesday night (July 7).
The arrested persons have been identified as Anwar Hussain, a local AGP leader, and Shakil Uddin. Both are residents of Kankalesh village in Sribhumi district. Police also seized a motorcycle bearing registration number AS10 8883, which was allegedly used to transport the suspected narcotics.
According to Sribhumi Police, the operation was launched after Senior Superintendent of Police Lina Doley received specific intelligence about the movement of a drug consignment. Acting on the information, officers from Kaliganj Watch Post and the Maluwa Police Investigation Centre conducted a joint raid at Bhanga Station Road under Badarpur Police Station.
During the operation, the police recovered around 500 grams of suspected heroin packed inside 30 soap boxes. According to the police, the seized contraband has an estimated international market value of around Rs 1 crore.
Addressing the media, Additional Superintendent of Police Trinayan Bhuyan said Sribhumi Police regularly conducts operations against drug trafficking and will continue such drives in the future. Referring to the latest operation, he described it as successful and confirmed the seizure of around half a kilogram of suspected heroin along with the arrest of Shakil Uddin and Anwar Hussain.
Bhuyan said the investigation is continuing to establish both the backward and forward links of the drug network. Police are examining where the suspected heroin was sourced from and where it was meant to be delivered. He added that investigators are looking into all possible angles of the case. Further investigation is underway.
