Sajal Acharjee Denies Role In Congress Land Sale Row, Calls Allegations ‘False And Bogus’

Cachar District Congress President Sajal Acharjee has strongly denied allegations linking him to an application seeking the transfer or sale of party land in Silchar, calling the claims “completely false and bogus” following the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s (APCC) show-cause notice against him. He has labelled allegations against former president Abhijit Paul for defaming him.

Speaking in his defence, Acharjee on Wednesday (October 28) said he was in Haflong on party-related work on Tuesday and learnt about the controversy while scrolling through Facebook later that night. He claimed that the land in question falls under the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and APCC, adding that he was unaware of the documents relating to the property.

Acharjee also questioned the photograph used in the application, claiming it was an old passport-sized picture and not his recent photograph. He said he did not know which plot of land the application referred to and maintained that he had no authority to sell party property.

Referring to reports that former district Congress president Abhijit Paul had submitted documents against him to the APCC, Acharjee alleged that Paul had accused him of submitting the application without first verifying the facts with him. He said, “As my colleague and fellow party worker, he could have asked me first and then complained to APCC. Rather, he is working 24×7 to hatch a conspiracy against me and defame me”.

Acharjee said he would respond to the show-cause notice and expressed confidence that the party’s high command would consider his explanation. He also stated that he had prepared a complaint to be submitted to the Cachar District Commissioner’s office and would file an FIR to identify those responsible for allegedly using his name in the application.

“I am a very old party worker and have fought for Congress. As long as I am alive, not an inch of party or office land will be put up for sale,” Acharjee asserted.
