Seven Detained Following Police Operation at Silchar’s Second Link Road

Seven individuals, including a woman identified by local residents as the owner of a house in Silchar’s Second Link Road area, were detained by police during a night-time operation on Sunday (June 21).

The operation took place at a residential house in Lane No. 14 of Second Link Road, where local residents alleged that illegal activities, including a sex racket, had been taking place for a prolonged period. According to residents, the house had witnessed frequent movement of unknown men and women, leading to concerns among people living in the neighbourhood.

Residents alleged that they had raised objections to the activities on several occasions in the past. According to local residents, concerns over the situation had been growing for some time.

On Sunday night, a group of residents gathered near the house following reports of suspicious activity. Police personnel subsequently arrived at the location and launched an operation at the premises. Videos recorded at the scene show a large number of residents gathered outside the house as police officers entered the compound.

According to residents present at the scene, some individuals inside the house allegedly attempted to resist entry and threatened police personnel and locals with sharp weapons. These claims could not be independently verified.

Residents further alleged that police entered the house and detained three young women and three young men who were present inside. Police also detained a woman identified by locals as Niyoti Das, who residents alleged was associated with the activities at the premises.

Videos from the scene show police escorting the detained individuals to a police vehicle while residents remained gathered in the area. The detainees were subsequently taken to Rangirkhari Police Station for questioning.

Police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations or disclosed whether any formal charges have been filed against the individuals detained during the operation.

The incident has generated widespread discussion in Silchar. Police are expected to continue their inquiry into the allegations and determine whether any offences have been committed.
