
Silchar, It is Time to Vote: 42 Wards Head to the Polls This 3 October
The Assam State Election Commission on Wednesday (September 2) announced the schedule for the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections, with voting set to take place on 3 October 2026 across all 42 wards.
Following the formal election notification issued by State Election Commissioner Ranjan Sharma, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect across the entire corporation area.
According to the official schedule, candidates can submit their nomination papers until 11 September. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on 14 September, followed by the publication of the list of validly nominated candidates on the same day.
Aspiring councillors will have until 17 September to withdraw their candidatures, after which the final list of contesting candidates will be released.
Polling will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, 3 October, and conclude at 4:00 p.m. If necessary, a fresh poll will be conducted on 5 October during the same hours. The counting of votes is scheduled for Tuesday, 6 October, starting at 8:00 a.m. and continuing until the completion of the process.
The Silchar Municipal Corporation was established with 42 wards following a state gazette notification in November 2024. Ward reservations for Scheduled Caste and women candidates were formalised in December 2024, and the final photo electoral rolls were officially published on 15 July 2026.
