Silchar MP holds press conference regarding untimely demise of the boy at his residence, Urges Police to thoroughly investigate
A shocking incident unfolded at the residence of Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy in the evening, as the dead body of a ten-year-old boy was discovered in his house. The young boy had been living with his mother, who works as a maid at the MP’s residence, alongwith his elder sister.
The MP, who initially refrained from speaking to media about the incident, later addressed reporters at his home, detailing the chain of events that had transpired as per his knowledge. He informed that he was attending an organisational meeting of BJP at the party office from 1:30 pm to around 4 pm today. Subsequently, Dr. Roy was engaged in a press meet with journalists at the party office. Approximately 45 minutes into the press meet, he received a distress call from a friend urging him to return home due to an emergency.
Upon reaching his residence, the MP was confronted with the distressing sight of the ten-year-old boy, who had allegedly taken his own life by hanging. The boy, a fifth-grade student, had been residing in the house with his elder sister and mother. The mother went out for some work and was unable to open their room after coming back. She informed the matter to everyone present in the house. The staff and helpers at the MP’s residence reported the matter to the Police. After arriving at the spot, the Police broke open the locked room and found the boy in a hanging condition. He was immediately transferred to Medical College.
Despite the efforts of doctors, the boy could not be revived and was subsequently pronounced dead. In response to the tragic event, MP Rajdeep Roy called Cachar SP Numal Mahatta and emphasised the need for a comprehensive investigation, urging the police to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and treat the case with the same level of diligence as any other.
The MP told reporters that the boy’s dead body is in the morgue currently as per his knowledge and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place tomorrow to determine the cause of death. The family, who resided on the second floor of the MP’s residence in a two-bedroom apartment, had been supported by the MP, who admitted the boy and his elder sister into a government school with the intention of improving their family prospects.
The grieving mother told Dr. Roy that they had eaten lunch together before she had to leave with her daughter for some work. The boy had requested her to give him the mobile phone, which she needed for work and hence denied. She told him to wait for sometime till they arrive back. Upon their return within 30-40 minutes, they found the door to the room closed and raised the alarm.
