Silchar: Unidentified Man Found Dead Near Chirukandi on Monday

An unidentified young man was found dead under suspicious circumstances near Chirukandi Road in Silchar on Monday (18 May), triggering a police investigation. The body, which had visible injuries, was recovered from a field near Malini Beel behind the industrial complex in the Chirukandi area.

According to local residents, the body was first spotted in a field near the area commonly referred to as “Bish Futti Math”. Locals informed the police, who later arrived at the scene and took the body for further examination.

Residents claimed that the deceased had visible injuries, particularly on the head. One local resident alleged that the area is known for the presence of drunkards and suspected that the deceased could have been intoxicated. However, police officials have not confirmed any such claim.

Speaking to the media, Silchar Sadar Executive Magistrate Arnab Baruah said, “Behind the industrial complex on Chirukandi Road, we found an unidentified body of a man. We have ordered a post-mortem and since the body is unidentified, anyone wishing to identify the body may come to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The body will be there and they can identify it.”

He further stated that anyone having information that could help the investigation may contact the police. The magistrate confirmed that the man had injuries but added that the exact cause of death cannot be determined until the post-mortem report is received.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
