Sribhumi: Mother Alleges Verbal Abuse, Slap by Doctor at Karimganj Hospital

A doctor at Karimganj Civil Hospital in Sribhumi has been accused of physically assaulting a woman following childbirth, after she allegedly asked when she would be discharged from the hospital.

The allegation has sparked concern among the patient’s family and local residents. The woman’s husband, Abdul Wahid, has submitted a written complaint to the police, naming Dr Abdul Mukit Tapadar, and has sought legal action over the alleged assault.

According to the complaint, Wahid admitted his wife to Karimganj Civil Hospital for delivery last week. The woman underwent a Caesarean section on August 1, 2026. On Friday (August 7), she was taken to the operation theatre for removal of her stitches.

The woman has alleged that the procedure was painful and that she cried out during the removal of the stitches. She claimed that the doctor used abusive language towards her. Later, when she asked when she would be discharged, the doctor allegedly slapped her hard across the cheek.

In his complaint, Wahid alleged that the slap left a visible mark on his wife’s cheek and claimed that doctors and nursing staff present at the time witnessed the incident. He has requested the police to register an FIR and take legal action against the doctor.

Speaking to the media, the woman repeated the allegation and described the events leading up to the alleged assault. Her account, however, remains an allegation and has not yet been independently established.

A representative of Karimganj Civil Hospital said the authorities had learnt about the allegation and would conduct an enquiry. He said he himself became aware of the matter through social media and was not aware of the FIR at the time of speaking to the media.

The hospital representative also said he had seen a photograph showing an apparent mark on the woman’s cheek, but claimed that when he personally visited and examined the patient, he did not see any such mark. He said the hospital would take necessary action if the allegations were established following the enquiry.

A local resident also raised concerns over the alleged treatment of the patient and urged the authorities to investigate the matter. The resident appealed to the state government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take note of the allegation.
