Two kids drown in Karimganj; elder sister jumped in to save younger one

In an unfortunate turn of affairs, a five-year-old and her seven-year-old sister have drowned. The unfortunate incident took place today in Karimganj’s Nagkapan Village.

As per available information, the two sisters had gone to the pond to take a bath. The five-year-old Rashmi Begum first slipped in deep waters and seven-year-old Sumaiya Begum rushed in to save her. Soon, she too went missing in the depth of the water.

The locals rushed to the spot and started looking for the kids. They found the missing children and rushed them to the Civil Hospital. The treating doctors at the hospital declared them brought dead.

Barak Valley of Assam has experienced unprecedented deluge in the month of June. While the water has receded from the residential areas, the low-lying zones are still inundated. The water level in ponds and ditches are high enough for kids to drown. So, the administration has issued several warnings. As it turns out, two young kids lost their lives drowning.
