Woman Detained After Cattle Found in Passenger Vehicle in Katigorah

A woman was detained by police after a cow was allegedly being transported in a four-wheeler passenger vehicle in Assam’s Katigorah area of Cachar district on Friday night.

According to local sources, the incident took place at Katigorah Chourangi along National Highway 6. A cow was recovered from a Maruti Ignis vehicle that was reportedly travelling through the TRK Road route.

Residents became suspicious after noticing the animal being carried in the vehicle and reportedly followed it. Upon reaching Katigorah Chourangi, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly stopped and attempted to flee after realising they could be intercepted.

Locals managed to catch the woman while she was trying to escape and later handed her over to the police. Police arrived at the scene and took custody of the woman, the vehicle and the recovered cow.

Officials later sent the woman to a shelter home in Silchar during the night. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

Police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the case, and the allegations surrounding the transportation of the animal are being examined.
