Ruckus continues in Cachar; passengers lying to get home quarantine; administration having a tough time
A lie has no leg to stand upon. Ithkhola residents Diya Bhor and Deepnarayan Bhor reached Silchar from Kolkata via airways on Friday. When the landed on Kumbhirgram airport, officials from the district administration, as per the standard operating procedure decided to send them to a facility quarantine.
However, the duo identified them as siblings and said that someone in their family recently passed away and they need to be at home. Though there is no such exemption mentioned in the SOP the officials granted them permission to be under home quarantine on humanitarian ground. Just a day later the duo was spotted roaming around in the locality and one of the neighbours called the control room and informed about the same.
“After receiving the complaint we sent our officials to their house and found out there is no death of any arrangements for rituals in their house. Considering the scenario, we have declared their entire residence as a containment zone,” informed additional deputy commissioner, Sumit Sattavan.
He added that the administration will take legal actions for this irresponsible behavior which puts the lives of many residents at risk. Whenever air passengers reach Silchar airport, the administration collects swab samples from the passengers and they are sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for testing. Many passengers have tested positive so far and that is why the state’s health department has made it compulsory to remain in a facility quarantine till the test reports are declared.
“We made an exception for them on the humanitarian ground but they have abused the exemption which is really unfortunate. Once the dust settles, we will take necessary actions against them,” informed the ADC.
It is not only the duo who are creating a ruckus in the quarantine centers. The administration is having a tough time dealing with a lot of them. Sattavan informed that a Karimganj resident in one of the quarantine centres started abusing a senior government official who was doing his duty. There are a lot of them who took a hint from the viral videos and now threatening that they would spit everywhere to spread the virus. People inside quarantine centres are wasting food on a daily basis.
“We are tolerating all that calmly. However, we have noted all the names and I assure the administration will take actions when it is appropriate.”
