
Cachar College Concludes Three-Day International Conference On Transdisciplinary Research
Cachar College held a three-day International Conference on Transdisciplinary Approaches in Contemporary Scientific Research, which concluded on Saturday, 8 November. The event was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college and supported by the State Bank of India, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Department of Science and Technology (DST), and Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC).
The conference brought together eminent researchers, scholars, and academicians from across India and abroad, including participants from the United States, France, Korea, and Israel. Over 200 research papers were presented during the three days, with 37 of them presented virtually. The main purpose of the event was to explore new directions in modern scientific research through a transdisciplinary approach. The conference also featured a cultural evening on 7 November and the publication of a compilation of the presented research papers.
Former student and MLA Dipayan Chakraborty delivered an emotional speech during the valedictory session. Expressing his pride, he said, “It is a matter of immense satisfaction that the newly constructed smart classroom, built with my MLA fund, hosted this international conference. It reflects the success of our shared effort for the college’s progress.”
Joint Director of Higher Education, Assam, Prasanna Bora highlighted the social relevance of research, saying, “Research should always be student-centred and society-centred. It must aim to bring positive change and contribute to the progress of our society.” Deputy Director Sumitra Dev noted the importance of interdisciplinary research, remarking, “When we integrate knowledge from various disciplines, it helps us face the global crises of our time more effectively.”
Director of the College Development Council, Assam University, Jayanta Bhattacharjee emphasised the changing global context of research and said, “Scientific inquiry needs greater emphasis in a rapidly transforming world. The National Education Policy (2020) has opened new doors of responsibility for both teachers and students.”
Professor Parthankar Choudhury, President of the College Governing Body, stated that “several key ideas have emerged from this seminar which will guide future academic planning.” Professor Anup Kumar Dey remarked, “Introducing research at the undergraduate level under the National Education Policy is a groundbreaking step. It has allowed many college students to participate as genuine researchers.” Professor Parag Seal added, “True research should not be confined by subjects, courses, or geographical limits.”
Among the other dignitaries present were Joint Director of Higher Education Assam Prasanna Bora, Deputy Director Sumitra Dev, Professor Parag Seal, Professor Anup Kumar Dey, and Professor Parthankar Choudhury. Cachar College Principal Dr. Apratim Nag presided over the ceremony, while IQAC Coordinator Dr. Mukul Kumar Baruah presented the detailed report.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Neetu Debnath, followed by the national anthem led by Dr. Parmita Das and Dr. Sucharita Choudhury. Principal Dr. Nag thanked all organisers and participants, saying that the conference had strengthened the institution’s academic foundation and would inspire future research initiatives at Cachar College.
