10-year-old girl found dead in Rongpur; Family suspects murder, Police feels it is an accident

In a harrowing incident, a 10-year-old girl child’s body was found in Rongpur, Karatigram area. According to the deceased’s uncle, she had gone out in the morning to gather flowers like every other day. After returning home, she went out again and never returned again. Her corpse was found by another person who had gone to the same place to look for banana leaves.

“She had lacerations in her throat,” said her uncle.

Her uncle strongly suspects that it was murder and even claimed that someone could have murdered her in a different place and dumped her corpse in the place where it was found. He has demanded for a detailed investigation.

Contradicting the uncle’s claims, investigating Officer from Rongpur Police Patrol Post said, “Prima Facie, this looks like an accident.”

He added, “It is possible that the young girl slipped and fell over a broken bottle. The sharp edges slit her throat and she died on the spot. However, we have recovered the dead body and sent it for post mortem to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Once we get the report from there, we will have a clearer view on the chain of events that led to her demise. Apart from the bleeding from her throat, we did not spot any other injury in her body. She was properly dressed and there were no scratches either.”

The report from SMCH is still awaited and they will shed some light on this perplexing incident.
