12 Corona patients try to run away from Silchar Medical College; "They are creating a nuisance," VP Dr. Bhaskar Gupta

The administration of Silchar Medical College and Hospital are spending sleepless nights dealing with a group of young-asymptomatic Corona patients admitted in the COVID block.

While briefing the press, vice-principal, Dr Bhaskar Gupta said that “they are creating a nuisance” and unnecessarily making life difficult for the doctors and staff in the medical college.

“They always create a scene over the food and facilities. We are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that they get nutritious meals. They have a problem with the fan, with the people and what not,” said Gupta.

Adding, “Now they have started a new trend. Every day they make a group and try to run away from the hospital. Last night at around 10:00 PM, seven patients tried to run away from the hospital, today five others made a similar attempt. They are COVID19 positive patients and if they run out, it will pose a threat to the people of the district.”

Gupta said he has informed the Police and at the same time warned the patients in the COVID block. “If they do it again, we have told them we will file an official police complaint,” informed Gupta.

When they tried to run away from the hospital, internal security officials confronted them. This poses a threat to the life of security guards too who are not supposed to come in close contact with the COVID positive patients.

Dr. Gupta refused to disclose the names of the patients as that would be going against the protocol. However, he informed, they are asymptomatic patients mostly young and travelled from hotspots like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and other parts of the country. “They are a young bunch of people who used to work in different parts of the country. Inside the isolation ward, they have nothing to do so they have become troublemakers. Though they are COVID patients, they are not bedridden in fact, they completely asymptomatic. So, they are getting impatient and doing all nonsense.”
