4 died with COVID at Silchar Medical College; 76 positive in Cachar, 31 air passengers

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) informed on Tuesday that at present there are 65 active covid patients in the hospital of which 32 are in the covid ward, 33 in ICU. Seven have been placed under ventilator support and 17 under oxygen therapy. 7 patients got admitted to the hospital today but there was no discharge as no one recuperated from the disease today.

The Cachar District Health department informed that four individuals died with Covid at SMCH on Friday.

Moni Rani Das, a resident of Trunk Road Police Quarter aged 65 years was admitted to the hospital on 24th April. She breathed her last today at 8:15 am. Pappu Nath, a Katlicherra resident aged 26 years was admitted to the hospital on 22nd April. The young boy was on ventilation at arrival as lung condition was bad with sp02 of 89 percent in room air. He was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonitis and had sepsis with acute kidney injury requiring vasopressors. According to the medical bulletin, the condition deteriorated with time and the patient expired today at 5.15 pm

Debashish Deb, a 65-year-old Ambicapatty resident was admitted to SMCH on 26th April with the complaint of fever cold, and cough. He had diabetes and coronary heart disease as comorbidities. Yesterday, he developed shortness of breath and was shifted to ICU for oxygenation. Later at around 10 am he developed a sudden cardiac arrest and had to be immediately intubated. The SMCH informed that thrombolysis was conducted but the patient succumbed with Covid today at 7:30 pm.

Jalaluddin Barbhuiya, an 80-year-old resident of Bihara Part 3 was admitted to SMCH on 28th April with the complaint of fever and cough. The patient was subsequently diagnosed as a case of severe covid pneumonia with hypertension. He had to be intubated at 10.30 am and expired at 7.15 pm today.

On Friday till 7 pm, 73 individuals tested positive for covid as per Rapid Antigen Test while 3 tested covid positive after undergoing Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test in Cachar District. 501 passengers arrived in Cachar on Friday of which 391 were tested and 31 turned positive subsequently.

A total of 3168 swabs were collected in Karimganj district on Friday of which 36 tested positive for covid. 20 individuals were discharged from various hospitals in the district. The number of active cases in the district stands at 163.

Hailakandi district reported 21 fresh covid cases in the last 24 hours pushing the covid tally in the district to 3,501. With these new cases, the district has altogether 92 active covid cases while 3,386 patients have been discharged. 21 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, one at Silchar Medical College and Hospital while 67 are kept under home isolation and three in other districts.
