5 symptomatic patients without travel history; 15 new COVID positive cases in Cachar

District Health Department and officials in Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that 15 new COVID positive cases have been reported on July 17 so far.

Among them, 31-year-old journalist Biswa Kalyan Purkayastha from Das Colony area, tested positive to become the first scribe to be infected by the virus in Barak Valley. He was suffering from Influenza-Like Illness for last four days and submitted his swab samples at SMCH yesterday. His result was disclosed today morning and he has been transferred to the COVID block of Silchar Civil Hospital.

Like Purkayastha, Meherpur’s Uttam Kumar Das (40), Miton Kumar Das (34), Rangirkhari’s Priyanka Ghosh (11), Link Road’s Shubhrendu Purkayastha (57) were also suffering from ILI and tested positive. None of them have travel history.

Apart from the ILI patients, there were several Air passengers who have tested positive for COVID 19. Among them, there were defense personnel and many civilians. They are:
