75 Years of Independence: Discussion Event in Cachar College

The upcoming year will mark the 75th year of Indian independence. With this milestone in mind, the central government has undertaken a seventy-five-week long celebration. And today was its nationwide inauguration. Named ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, the festival commenced by remembering the historic day of the Dandi March.

Under the planning of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam, a discussion event was held at the Cachar College today in memory of the 75th anniversary of independence. This special lecture titled ‘On Freedom Struggle in India’ was delivered by the eminent researcher and author Sanjib Deb Laskar.

At the event presided over by Principal Siddhartha Shankar Nath, Deb Laskar unveiled the overshadowed chapter of the Surma-Barak Valley in the Indian independence movement.

Under the skilful management of Puspalata Singha, Hemanta Kumar Bora gave a welcome speech at the recitation event. Paromita Das initiated the programme by singing Rabindranath Tagore’s song ‘Milechi Aaj Mayer Dake’. From the Sepoy Mutiny to the Khilafat Movement – Mr. Sanjib Deb Laskar in his speech shared some unspoken stories of the freedom fighters from the Sylhet-Cachar region for a brief time.
