Hailakandi accident: One dead, many still in critical condition

Last evening in Hailakandi’s Shahabad area, a Max vehicle loaded with crates of biscuit, collided head on with a passenger filled Cruiser vehicle. The devastating road mishap has left one dead and several others fighting for life.

The impact between the two vehicles was so huge that many of the passengers lost their consciousness, while some lost their body parts. We have received an image which shows the Maximo’s driver’s right feet being damaged completely.

Post the accident, the wounded were taken to Lala Health Centre in a truck immediately after the mishap. But due to lack of medical facilities, doctors and nurses, the injured passengers were left unattended for about half an hour. After that they received initial treatment and were then referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

In Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Maximo driver Masuk Uddin was declared dead. 34-year-old Masuk was a resident of Chandrapur area. Sources in medical college told us that many others are in critical condition.

We got to know from eye witnesses that the biscuit carrying Max vehicle was travelling from Karimganj towards Katlicherra when it collided with the passenger filled Maximo. We also got to know that the Max driver ran away from the spot right after the accident and is still missing.

The injured have been identified as Asrraf Uddin (30) of Ratbari, Neeranu Nesha (32) and Khairul Islam Majumder of Katalichara’s Harishnagar area, Abhijit Pal (19) of Karicherra, Imrana Begum (32) of Baldabodi, Zakir Hossain Majumdar (42) of Bukabil, Zainul Islam (32) of Lala Chandrapur Danish Imam (5) of Lala Sahabah, Wahida Khanam Laskar (22) of Kadihara, Nazim Uddin (50) of Baldabadi. The identity of the two wounded is yet to be determined.
