Bees sting in Sonabarighat continues, Dhonehari villagers calls for road blockade tomorrow
We have always heard that bees sting only in self-defence when they are attacked or disturbed. If this is the case then how did a 55-year-old woman in Sonabarighat die from the attack of a bee attack when she was just walking towards her home after running some errands? The whole attack by the swarming colony of bees was captured on CCTV visuals and nowhere was she seen attacking the hive or the bees. Just four days later, several others also raised complaints of bee stings in the same area. The people of the area are terrified even to come out of their houses now.
The District Administration of Cachar or the Forest Department of Cachar and the District Disaster MANAGEMENT Authority (DDMA) of Cachar are not responsive to this problem. Both the Forest Department and DDMA have denied this being their responsibility to protect or prevent people from such kinds of attacks by bees or wasps even after one person died after the attack. The locals have now decided to block the main road at Sonabarighat to make the authorities hear their problem.
On December 12, almost 10 people were stung by the bees which include school children, women and daily wagers of the area. Yesterday when attacked by the bees, a man in scooty had to leave his vehicle behind and roll on the ground to save himself from the stings.
The locals have alleged that they received no compensation or sympathy from the district administration. They have also alleged that district forest officials and the DDMA are in denial of any responsibility.
Dhonehari Part 2 Gaon Panchayat Member in this regard said, “We are unable to come out of our house during the day. The District Administration is just silent on this. Is it bee or something else, there is no answer from the authorities. We have no other way but to make our voices heard and that is why we have decided to block the road tomorrow”.
About this road block, the GP member further said, “Tomorrow after 12 noon, we will block the Sonai-Silchar road until we get any solution from the administration”.
