Udharband MLA Mihirakanti Shome faced protests while inaugurating a water project in Shibu Jangal area of Udharband. On Saturday, MLA Mihir Kanti Shome went to inaugurate the newly constructed water project worth 94 lakhs 41 thousand rupees in Shibu Jangal area of Udharband’s Khaspur GP. Meanwhile, after hearing the news that the newly constructed water project will be inaugurated today, the residents of GP Ghunghurband area came and sat on dharna infront of the water project. Their only demand was that all the villages have been provided water lines under the Jal Jeevan Mission, except for a few families in their area. After making demands to several contractors and engineers, no work was done. So they were forced to sit in protest.
MLA Mihir Kanti Shome arrived to inaugurate the water project amidst the agitation. On seeing MLA Shome, the women present in the agitation started chanting slogans that they will not allow this project to be started unless they provide water to their village. Seeing the agitation going on infront of the gate of the water project, the MLA called engineer Debabrata Paul and asked him what was the reason of this agitation. He also signed a show cause against him, seeking clarity why some families in their village were not given water.
After gaining all information from the engineer, the MLA spoke to the protestors and promised that water will reach all of their houses within the next few days. After getting the assurance, the protestors retreated. Later, the MLA inaugurated the newly constructed water project by cutting the ribbon.
