Cattle smuggling agitates Kalain locals, angry mob vandalised used Santro car

On Monday morning a speeding Santro car which was trying to smuggle cattle hit two pedestrians on the way in Jalalpur. Later, the locals started to chase the vehicle and finally were able to stop it in the Tarapur area of Kalain. Upon reaching the vehicle, the locals found three cows forced inside the rear seat and boot of the car. This enraged them and they vandalised the Santro car.

While the agitated crowd shattered the glass and vandalised the car bearing registration number ML 05F 3629, its driver managed to escape the situation. Later when the police were informed about this, an officer rushed to the spot.

When they reached the spot, they recovered the cows along with the Meghalaya registered car and took them to the police station. The cases of cattle smuggling is rapidly increasing in those areas recently. Last Friday, six cows were recovered by the Katigorah locals from two vehicles and two smugglers were also held by them.
