Locals stage mass protest against dilapidated condition of Silchar-Kalain Road

The locals of Tarapur Raigarh alongwith Tarapur Pioneer Club and various other social and cultural organisations staged a mass protest against the dilapidated condition of Silchar-Kalain road. They alleged that repeated requests made to the administration and govt. for repair of the road especially from Tarapur Shivbari to Mazumder Bazar were turned down. Hence they blocked the road today for administering their dissent.

Speaking to reporters about the protest a member of Pioneer Club told, “We have blocked the road today at Tarapur Raigarh. We demand immediate repair of Silchar-Kalain road. Provision should be made for construction of drain and footpath on both sides of the road. The portion of the road which goes through END dyke has been decrepit since years and should be repaired immediately. If our demand is not fulfilled then we will go for much bigger protests in future.”

Speaking about the road condition a student said, “Students of our area have to go to educational institutions in the morning and return by evening but the condition of the road is so worse that nearly everyday E-rickshaws turn upside down near Shivbari while carrying passengers. What’s the guarantee that we will return home safe and sound? The administration is utterly silent despite it being such an important connecting road. We want a permanent solution to this problem. This road should immediately repaired in a way that it lasts for a long time.”

Later officials of administration arrived at the spot and gave in writing that the road work will start soon after which the blockade was withdrawn by locals. The department will start road work after 15 days. Circle Officer Gourab Das went to the agitation for terminating the road block by locals.
