Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Life of Worker From Bihar in Cachar's Dholai

A distressing incident unfolded today in the Saptagram area of Cachar’s Dholai, as Vinod Majhi, a brick kiln worker hailing from Patna, Bihar, lost his life in a drowning accident.

According to eyewitnesses, Majhi, employed at a brick kiln in the vicinity, went to a nearby pond for a bath when tragedy struck. Locals recount their efforts to rescue Majhi, stating, “We saw him drowning and that is when we jumped into the water to save him. We managed to hold him by his hair and lift him up, but the body was too heavy to do so. After trying for a while, when we could not manage to lift him up, we returned to the bank.”

Despite the response of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), their search and rescue efforts proved futile in locating Majhi. However, undeterred by the official rescue operation’s conclusion, locals mobilized, eventually locating Majhi’s body using fishing nets.

The grim discovery prompted authorities from the Local Police Station to arrange for the postmortem examination of Majhi’s remains. The tragic incident leaves behind a grieving family, as Majhi is survived by his wife and six children.
