"BJP Hatao, Desh Bachao": Sushmita Dev joins Biswas as TMC's campaigns door to door in Silchar
On Sunday, April 7th, Radheshyam Biswas, the MP Candidate for Silchar from the Trinamool Congress, was observed strolling through the streets of Silchar alongside his peers and Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev. Their purpose was to engage with small shop owners, imploring them to cast their votes in favor of the TMC in the upcoming elections, with the aim of alleviating their difficulties.
As they traversed the streets, they fervently chanted various slogans extolling their party and candidate, with the standout among them being “BJP Hatao, Desh Bachao,” underscoring their belief that removing the BJP from power would steer the country away from further adversity.
Speaking to the media, TMC candidate Radheshyam Biswas emphasized their outreach efforts to connect with grassroots communities, particularly small shop owners, to empathize with their challenges and advocate for their support in the next election. He highlighted the dire situation faced by these small business owners, attributing it to the burden of GST, which significantly impedes their ability to generate sufficient income.
Biswas further criticized the ruling party, asserting that despite promises of development and upliftment, little tangible progress has been made. He took a swipe at his political opponent, Bharatiya Janata Party’s MP Candidate Parimal Suklabaidya, alleging a lack of engagement with the small shop owners, citing their testimony of never having seen him or received attention to their plight.
Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev echoed Biswas’ sentiments, stating that their campaign commenced with listening to the grievances of small shop owners at Bhowal Point. She underscored the adverse impact of GST on small businesses, contending that it exacerbates their financial woes, with disproportionate burdens on accounting expenses.
Dev further lamented the surge in unemployment, positing that diminished purchasing power among the middle and lower-middle-class populace exacerbates the struggles of small business owners, as they rely heavily on this demographic. She expressed optimism regarding the electoral prospects of the TMC, anticipating a mandate for change and development.
Drawing a contrast with the BJP’s large-scale rallies, Dev emphasized the efficacy of door-to-door campaigning, asserting its superior influence. She announced the transition to public meetings from April 11th, underscoring the party’s commitment to grassroots engagement.
Dev launched a scathing critique of the BJP’s outreach tactics, alleging coercion of Self-Help Group (SHG) members and beneficiaries of welfare schemes to attend their gatherings under duress. She dismissed such gatherings as manufactured displays of support, emphasizing that genuine public sentiment cannot be compelled.
