Silchar-Hailakandi Road right lane closure upto March 20

A key lane of the Silchar-Hailakandi Road has been temporarily closed for the construction of a 4m x 4m RCC box cell culvert between C.R. Avenue Point and Shani Mandir. The closure, effective from Wednesday (February 5), will last until March 20, 2025.

According to a notification from the Office of the Executive Engineer, PWRD, Silchar & Udharbond Territorial Road Division, the right-hand side lane will remain off-limits to all vehicular traffic, forcing vehicles from both directions to share the remaining lane at the affected stretch.

The left-hand side lane of Silchar-Hailakandi Road, between C.R. Avenue point and Shani Mandir, was closed to all vehicular traffic for the same purpose in December.

The traffic restriction that came into effect from December 3, 2024, was to remain in place until December 31, 2024. But as usual the agency failed to meet the deadline even upto February, 2025.

Authorities have urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and exercise caution while passing through the area. The construction aims to enhance road durability and drainage efficiency.

The information was shared in a press release from the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar.
