Again money snatched from a man in Tarapur; "Will send Police along with people withdrawing cash," SP

Snatching money from residents of Cachar has become new normal. Today afternoon, Tarapur’s Ukil Bazar resident Shankar Paul Choudhury lost Rs 2,75,000 of his hard-earned money.

The retired LIC employee had withdrawn Rs 6,75,000 from Baroda Bank in Tarapur. This was his gratuity money, he informed. He deposited Rs 4,00,000 in Bank of India’s Tarapur branch and was walking to his home with the remaining Rs 2,75,000.

“As I reached near Tarapur Police Outpost, two young boys in a black pulsar stopped near me and snatched the bag. I prevented them but then they started assaulting me. Soon, a nearby pedestrian ran in to help me, they assaulted him too and rode away with the bag,” said Shankar Paul Choudhury while breaking into tears.

He expressed his sorrow, “I had to spend a lot of money as my wife was battling cancer. She died last year and I was in a deep depression. Today again, I have been fired another shock.”

The Superintendent of Cachar Police BL Meena rushed to the spot. He said the police will check the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity and try to nab the bikers. “We will have police officers patrolling parts of the city riding on two-wheelers to enhance security,” he stated.

Meena urged the residents to be more careful. “Residents, especially businessmen who withdraw a significant amount of money from the bank, can inform Police before withdrawing the money. We will send Police officials along with people withdrawing cash to provide security and prevent snatching,” said the SP.

Last month a similar incident took place exactly at the same spot. This week, this is the second report of snatching. It is clear that the miscreants snatching money in broad daylight do not fear Police or the law. How SP Meena and his team of police officials deal with the miscreants remain to be seen. For now, it is only tears for Shankar Paul Choudhury and hundreds of such victims.
