Alleged kingpin running the inter-state smuggling nexus, Karimganj's Imad Uddin Police’s net

Karimganj’s infamous drug smuggler Imad Uddin was arrested by Karimganj Police yesterday in connection with 40 crores worth of drug smuggling. He is the icon of the Karimganj drug circuit and has been the leading drug operation for some years now. Yesterday he was arrested after a joint effort by Karimganj Police and BSF’s intelligence wing. The recent drug bust in Karimganj where 9.47 kilogram of heroin was confiscated from a secret chamber of the truck is also owned by Imad Uddin. He has been on the police and BSF’s radar for a long time and yesterday’s arrest is a major win in the war against drugs.

A highly placed source in the police has said, Imad was on the BSF-G wing’s radar for three months and finally, he was caught in a chase by Karimganj Police and BSF. Imad Uddin is a resident of Chargola in Karimganj and he was a driver by profession until 4 to 5 years back. In the last few years, his wealth started to grow suspiciously and at present, he is one of the richest men in the area.

According to our sources, the arrested drug smuggler currently owns a water purification plant and has also deposited 1 crore in cash to his bank account. That is how the suspicion of the police grew. On October 11, a truck was apprehended near Baba Dhaba in Karimganj bypass that goes towards Tripura. The police source has revealed that the truck halted at the dhaba for almost two hours and BSF’s intel gave the location to the police who closed down on the truck that was headed for Tripura. 9.47 kilogram of heroin was recovered from a secret chamber built above the driver’s seat. The secret chamber was sealed and the operation team had to break the camber to recover the drug.

After the arrest of the “star peddler”, the police also arrested two more people involved with Imad. His peddler who transported drugs from Mizoram to Karimganj and another peddler who was responsible for transport from Karimganj to Tripura were arrested. The police are currently looking into the origin of the drug and the destination in Tripura. Imad Uddin currently owns many plots and buildings in Karimganj and that drew lots of suspicions. It is being alleged that the money for all these properties and assets came from his drug peddling circuit.
