Assam University Silchar upsets star-studded Krisna Kanta Handique University to reach the final of Late Niloy Dutta T20 Inter University Cricket tournament organised by the Assam Cricket Association.
In the Semi Final match, KK Handique Open University won the toss and elected to bat first. Ranji Trophy player of this edition Bishal Roy opened the batting for KK Handique University he got dismissed early by magnificent Arindom Deb. Md Kaif, the other opener also lost his wicket to Deb. Nibir Deka (20) and Nihar Deka (34) started stitching a partnership by Anurag Sinha with his brilliant fielding ran Nibir Deka out and then dismissed Nihar Deka bowled during his bowling.
Mayukh Hazarika, another state player scored 26 runs in tough batting conditions to take KK Handique University to the respectable but below par score of 115.
What looked like an easy chase for Assam University Silchar turned out into a low-scoring thriller. Bibek Sinha walked back to the pavilion for just 2 runs. Anurag Singha who played two back to back man of the match knocks in the road to Semi Final, started building a partnership. As Sinha looked like shaping another responsible innings, he got dismissed for 17.
The wickets keep falling like house of cards but skipper and opener for the Assam University Silchar, Aman Singh remained focused at the other hand. Singh and Co. needed 15 runs of the last 12 balls. Aman Singh scored a boundary and it came down to six balls, six runs.
Mayukh Hazarika gave only two runs in the first four balls bringing the match in the favour of KK Handique University. But on the fifth ball, Singh scored a huge six to win the match for Assam University Silchar and take the team to the final. Singh remained not out on 66.
