Bajrang Dal Submits Memorandum Seeking Probe Into NIT Silchar, Levels Jihadi Allegations
Bajrang Dal, Madhya Cachar Zila, has submitted a detailed four-page memorandum to the Cachar District Commissioner and the Senior Superintendent of Police, demanding immediate action and a thorough investigation into alleged “Islamic Radicalisation” and “Jihadi Activities: at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar.
In the letter, the organisation alleged that certain professors, staff members and students at NIT Silchar were involved in what it described as “Islamic radicalisation”, “illegal jihadi activities”, and “systematic Islamisation” within the institution. The memorandum further claimed that these activities were taking place inside boys’ hostels and through administrative influence.
According to the document, Bajrang Dal referred to an earlier memorandum allegedly submitted on October 17, 2025, stating that no conclusive action had been taken on their previous complaints.
Among the allegations raised in the latest memorandum were claims that some hostels had been used as spaces for Namaz gatherings and that faculty members, as well as outsiders, allegedly visited during such gatherings. The organisation also alleged that discussions promoting extremist ideology took place during those meetings. No independent evidence was attached in the publicly circulated copy of the memorandum.
The memorandum further objected to the alleged preparation and consumption of halal meat in hostel messes, claiming it disregarded the dietary preferences of Hindu students. It also alleged that beef consumption was promoted during Iftar and Eid gatherings in some hostels.
Another major allegation in the letter concerned what Bajrang Dal termed “systemic Islamisation” of the administrative system. It claimed that certain faculty members were appointed to key positions in a manner that allegedly favoured one community. Several professors and officials were named in the memorandum, with the organisation demanding their removal, suspension and arrest.
Those named in the memorandum include Prof. Abdul Karim Barbhuiya, Head of Placement Cell and former Registrar; Prof. Mokaddes Ali Ahmed, HoD of Civil Engineering and former Dean, Planning & Development; Dr. Md. Ahmaruzman, former HoD of Chemistry; Dr. Monowar Hussain, faculty member of Civil Engineering; Dr. Wasim Arif, President of the Student Body, former Associate Dean (Students Welfare) and Professor of ECE; and Musharaf Hussain Barbhuiya, a staff member of NIT Silchar.
The letter also alleged discrimination in hostel religious activities, claiming that permission for organising Saraswati Puja was denied, while Namaz gatherings and Iftar events were allegedly allowed.
Based on these allegations, Bajrang Dal demanded the immediate arrest and suspension of the named professors and staff members. A detailed, thorough and unbiased investigation into all allegations. Rearrangement of key administrative posts and removal of those named in the memorandum.
The organisation also warned that if no action was taken immediately, it may launch a large-scale public protest.
As of the filing of this report, the NIT Silchar administration had not issued any official response to the allegations made in the memorandum. No response from district authorities or police had been made public either.
