Barak Premier League: Brilliant individual performances but dull matches on day 1

Barak Premier League organised by the Silchar Veteran Cricketers Club kickstarted today. On Wednesday, during the tournament’s first match, Subham Deb of Udharbond Transformers hit a brilliant century to lead his team to victory. At Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium, they beat Dholai’s Moonlight Academy by a huge margin of 101 runs.

After winning the toss, Udharbond decided to bat first. They put up a huge score of 236 for three in their 20 overs. Number 3 batsman Shubham Deb played a breathtaking innings of unbeaten 120 runs. In a blistering 55-ball knock, he managed to hit six fours and nine sixes scoring at a strike rate of around 216. Azharul Islam scored 50 runs as well. Besides, Amit Baishya (15), Rahul Karan Mazumder (13) and Debajyoti Bhattacharjee (11) scored notable runs. 27 runs came from extras.

Chasing such a mammoth target, they were restricted to 135 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Prashant Kumar fought like a lone wolf and scored 62 runs off 54 balls. This right-handed batsman hit a few spectacular shots all around the park, especially the six over cover. However, this beautiful innings of Prashant Kumar couldn’t save his team as the rest of the batters failed miserably. Shubham of Udharbond was brilliant with the ball too. He took three wickets. Besides, Arijit Mohapatra and Chiranjib Dey took two wickets each. Shubham Deb was adjudged as the man of the match for his outstanding performance. Arindam Hore handed over the trophy to him.

Meanwhile, Badarpur Royals won the second match of the day. They beat Victory Club Karimganj by 49 runs. Badarpur decided to bat first after winning the toss and made 163 for four in 20 overs. Jalal Uddin Laskar scored 53 runs. Besides, Liaqat Ahmed (41), Liaquat Ahmed (29) and Tanmoy Chakraborty (24) batted well. 24 runs came from extras.

Chasing the set target, Victoria Club got stuck at 134 runs for 9 wickets. M. Rashid Choudhury scored the highest 37 runs for the team. Besides, Sourav Das scored 30 and Sultan Ahmed 26 runs. Jalal Uddin Laskar was adjudged as the man of the match for playing an innings of half-century. Amitabh Roy, Rajesh Das and Debangshu Sharma handed over the award to him.

The tournament was flagged off with a small cultural event in the morning. ‌Before the start of the first match, Babul Hore, Dakshina Prasad Sharma, Dr. Priyanka Dev, Amit Kumar Roy, Swarnali Choudhury, Debangshu Sharma and Chandan Sharma got acquainted with the players of both the teams.
