Breaking: Assam girl Rima Das' Village Rockstars to represent India at the Oscar

Big news coming in for Assam girl Rima Das. After bagging the National Film Awards earlier this year, her film Village Rockstars has been chose as India’s representative film for the Oscars. This is definitely a proud moment not just for our state but also the country.

The Film Federation of India, headed by S V Rajendra Singh Babu, today, announced its decision. 28 films in total had submitted their entries. Some among them included Hindi films like Raazi, Padmaavat, October, Love Sonia, Manto, Padman and regional cinemas like Mahanati, Gulabjaam, Village Rockstars, Reva, Nude among more.

Written and directed by Rima Das, Village Rockstars in a coming-of-age story of “poor but amazing children”, who live a satisfied life, full of fun and happiness. The story projects the story of how a group of poverty-stricken children understands the true meaning of life, and through their rock band, bring happiness to each other’s life.

The independent film has already made rounds of various film festivals and has received a great response.

In the past years, films like Lagaan, Newton, Barfi! Devdas, Rang De Basanti have been at the Oscars.
