Breaking: Two Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Nabbed by Locals in Cachar, One Escapes
Tension gripped the Katigorah area of Cachar once again on Sunday morning as two Bangladeshi nationals — a man and a woman — were caught by locals on Sunday morning while allegedly trying to cross the international border illegally. The incident occurred in the Chowrongee area of Katigorah, near the Indo-Bangladesh border, when three individuals were observed loitering in a suspicious manner, as per the locals.
Locals, growing wary of their behaviour, confronted the trio. While one of them managed to flee the scene, the remaining two were apprehended and handed over to the police after being briefly held by the public. Police sources said the duo had plans to cross back into Bangladesh using the Katigorah border.
Initial investigations suggest that the apprehended individuals had been working as labourers in Gujarat after entering India illegally several years ago. Fearing a crackdown by the Gujarat government on undocumented immigrants, they fled to Cachar and were attempting to cross the border into Bangladesh via Katigorah.
This is not an isolated case. In the past one month alone, between May 24 and June 25, a total of 88 illegal immigrants have been intercepted and pushed back by authorities through Cachar’s international border. Most were identified in and around Katigorah following alerts raised by vigilant locals.
If not held by locals, could the illegal immigrants cross the international border by outsmarting the BSF patrolling the border and border police? Are there any agents helping them with details and local inputs?
