Cachar and Sribhumi Recognised as Saksham Districts for Achieving HIV/AIDS Targets

Cachar and Sribhumi districts have been recognised under the Saksham District category for achieving two of the three 95-95-95 targets under the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP).

The recognition was given during the Suraksha Sankalp Karyashala held at Mayfair Spring Valley Resort in Sonapur, Guwahati, on 14 October. Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal felicitated districts for their efforts towards HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment and care services.

Under the programme, districts that achieved all three 95-95-95 targets were recognised as Surakshit Districts, while those that achieved two of the three targets were placed in the Saksham District category. Cachar and Sribhumi were among 13 districts recognised under the latter category.

The recognition highlights the collective efforts of the district administrations and stakeholders involved in strengthening HIV/AIDS-related services.

Representing Cachar district, Additional Deputy Commissioner H. Devid Kumar Borah, District AIDS Control Officer Dr Ruhul Amin Choudhury, DISHA Cluster Programme Manager Anup Kumar Dutta, Clinical Services Officer Sayed Salim Haque and Prabal Choudhury, Sahiyogi, were present at the programme.

Sribhumi district was represented by District AIDS Control Officer Dr Roshan Ara, DISHA Cluster Programme Manager Anup Kumar Dutta, Clinical Services Officer Sayed Salim Haque and Prabal Choudhury, Sahiyogi.

The 95-95-95 targets are part of the global strategy to combat HIV/AIDS. They aim to ensure that 95 per cent of people living with HIV know their status, 95 per cent of those diagnosed with HIV receive antiretroviral therapy and 95 per cent of people receiving treatment achieve viral suppression.

The recognition acknowledges the progress made by both districts while highlighting the continued importance of strengthening HIV testing, treatment access and care services.
