
Cachar Police confiscates drugs worth 6 crores from Jirigaht, local drug peddler in custody
In an anti-narcotic operation, the Cachar Police confiscated 20 thousand WY tablets from a drug peddler in Bahadurpur Village in the Jirighat area. The narcotic tablets found from a 37-year-old are worth more than 6 crores in the Indian market. The drug consignment was headed from Manipur and through Cachar, it was destined for a different state. The peddler has been apprehended by police and is currently being interrogated.
According to Cachar SP Numal Mahatta, “In an operation led by Jirighat thana OC Chittaranjan Bora, a vast consignment of narcotic tablets was found from a woman in Bahadurpur Village in Jirighat. The woman, a local from the nearby Manipuri Basti, was transporting the drug from Manipur and was supposed to deliver to a state outside Assam. The woman had 20 thousand WY tablets in her possession, which is being identified as narcotic substance”.
The senior APS officer further said, “We have apprehended the drug peddler, Khuminkhin Hmar and she is under interrogation to know more about her links. The estimated market value of these confiscated tablets is over 6 crores. We will arrest everyone involved with this consignment and an investigation in this regard is on. An FIR, number 23/2022 has been lodged at the Jirighat Police Station.”
Regarding the anti-narcotic operations and War on Drugs mission, the SP reiterate that the Cachar Police has formed a “taskforce” and the operations are active on a daily basis. He further mentioned that even though the drug peddlers are using specific and difficult modus operandi to run these drug peddling circuits but Cachar Police is able to outsmart them every time.
