The award ceremony was held in the auditorium of Gandhi Bhawan on March 8, 2022. This achievement was informed via a letter by R. Subrahmanyam, Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. Of India. Cachar district has left behind Nellore district and East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh to win the first rank in the country.
This scheme was adopted for the Scheduled Caste dominated villages and to check on the development words of the village closely. 13 villages have been declared “Adarsh Gaon” under this scheme. In the award ceremony, Dr. Ranoj Pegu was present along with MP Cachar, Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty, Mihir Kanti Shome, Kaushik Rai and other Administrative Officers of the District. After the award ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar exclaimed, “It’s indeed a proud moment to receive this award on Women’s Day. We’ve first identified the SC dominated villages in the district and started filling all the gaps and requirements of these villages. In terms of the quantum of work achieved and accomplished, Cachar district has been declared the Best Performing District under this scheme for the year 2020. 13 villages have been declared Adarsh Gram by the state Minister of WPTBC, Dr. Ranoj Pegu. We have also received prize money from the Central Government, worth rupees 10 lakhs. Much hard work has gone behind this prize. There were many needs of these villages and many models of development were formulated. Starting from Model Anganwadi, solar lamps, drinking water and other innovative schemes were adopted by the team. Credit for this goes to the entire team and especially Senior Planning Officer Ruli Daulagapu, DDC Rajiv Roy and others who’ve implemented this programme. The state has also helped us a lot for this”.
She further said, “We were in tough competition with Andhra Pradesh and then we fast-tracked the works and worked hard towards achieving the goals. No district from Assam was even in the top 12. Cachar was in the 12th rank before. After all the hard work, we have left behind Andhra Pradesh and achieved the first rank for which the entire credit goes towards the team. It’s a celebratory day for us”.
Expressing his happiness, Dr. Ranoj Pegu said, “The PMAGY has been implemented in the entire nation and in its assessment, Cachar district has been awarded the best district in India. I’ve visited some of the villages and have found how well these schemes are implemented. Starting from Anganwadi to Primary Schools, the centrally sponsored programmes have been properly implemented and rightly so, Cachar has won the title of “Best Performing District”. I congratulate the Cachar District Administration for this achievement”. Minister of Education and Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes is on a two-day visit to Barak Valley which is going to end today with his return to Guwahati today.
