CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Guardian Minister Singhal, DGP’s ceremonial salute to martyrs of Assam Police 

All five dead bodies were lined up in respective coffins at Superintendent of Police’s office in Cachar. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who reached earlier in the morning we to SP office from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. 

He paid tribute to all five martyrs and was followed by Guardian Minister of Cachar Ashok Singhal, Minister Pijush Hazarika, DGP Assam Police, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, deputy commissioner of Cachar Keerthi Jalli. All five of them got killed during the armed Mizo onslaught yesterday at Lailapur in Cachar district. 

The Ministers are now meeting the local MLAs to review the situation. The Director General of Police Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta will assess the Police formation. After, SP Vaibhab Chandrakant Nimbalkar got shot and hospitalised, SP Hailakandi, Ramandeep Kaur reported to the spot and took interim charge of the formation. However, it is unclear if she would be given the additional charges of Cachar. It is worth noting here that the Mizo encroachment is evident in Hailakandi too and forces of both the states are engaged.

MLA Silchar Dipayan Chakraborty, Sonai’s Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, Lakhipur’s Kaushik Rai, MLA Patharkandi Krishnendu Paul are in the meeting among other. Astonishingly, MLA of Dholai constituency where the entire tussle is unfolding is yet to be seen. He wasn’t there at the ceremonial salute nor is he in the meeting.

SI Swapan Kumar Roy, SP’s PSO Liton Suklabadiya, MH Barbhuiya, N Hussain and S Barbhuiya have lost their lives and were paid tribute with a ceremonial salute.
