CM saw the floods but didn't feel the pain and so no package was announced for Barak Valley: Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha

North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, also happening to be the working president of the Assam Pradesh Congress, took a dig at the CM of Assam for his truncated empathy for the flood affected area of Barak Valley.

He mentioned that the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on his last visit, was only seen dealing with the perpetrators of the entire ‘man -made’ flood incident. He did not share any future plans and initiatives for the betterment of the people of the region.

“It is said that this flood has pushed Barak Valley 15 years back, but if this continues without any improvement, the valley will disappear one day”, says Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha.

He also mentioned that the CM ignored the devastated conditions of the lives of the people, and instead focussed on only punishing the perpetrators.

He stated that a video was recently released where the CM is seen saying that after his arrival, the MLA and MP of Cachar have started taking the matter of the flood seriously. This video was soon deleted from its handle.

“Let there be a CBI enquiry into the breaking of the dam matter, and I can gurantee you that there will be by-election in Silchar, for both Lok Sabha and Assembly,” says Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha.

Recently, the town of Haflong was also the victim of a tragic series of natural disasters— floods and landslides. The CM had seemingly spoken of certain packages for the betterment of the affected. “CM only saw the floods of Silchar but didn’t feel the pain of the locals and so did not announce a package for the betterment of the Valley,” said the North Karimganj MLA.
