Colours of Barak 2019 celebrates spirit of Republic Day and promote talent

To celebrate the ocassion of Republic Day, Jookto organised “Colours of Barak: Barak in the Republic,” a cultural festival in New Delhi on January 25.

The event celebrated the life and culture from the Barak Valley region of Assam. It was held at the prestigious C. D. Deshmukh Auditorium in India International Centre, New Delhi.

The event was graced by senior officials, diplomats and cultural stalwarts from Delhi besides people from north eastern region living in Delhi.

Jookto felicitated three individuals who’ve taken deep interest in the north eastern region- Boon Yian Ng, Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore to India, Tanmoy Chakraborty Vice President Tata Sons and Jay Mondal, internationally recognised photographer based in New York.

The event also saw the presence of artists from the Barak Valley region in Assam. Artists from the region, who are settled in Delhi also showcased traditional dance forms of Barak and Brahmaputra valley. These performances depicted the concept of fellow feelings of brotherhood and respect for every community living there.

Dr Joyeeta Bhattacharjee, foreign policy expert and director- Jookto danced to Bhupen Hazarika’s soulful ‘Bistirno dupare’ in Sanskrit and started the cultural evening. Her act was followed by Amrita Dutta, Nabanita Saha and her troupe and Gargi Deb, the young sensation from Silchar. There was also a poetry recitation by Bishaka Sarma.

Subimal Bhattacharjee, Director of Jookto shared that the event was organized to celebrate the spirit of the Republic Day and show to the national audience how Barak Valley is an abode of peace and cultural fusion.

The event was yet another effort to bring to focus the cultural talents of the Barak region before the national and international audience. Subimal also said that there should be regular opportunities for the artists of Barak valley to showcase their skills and Jookto would continue to take endeavor to spread its efforts.
