Communal tension sparks in Cachar's Badiripar after a Banyan tree considered sacred by local Hindus, was axed; huge force deployed
Tension mounts in Cachar district’s Kashipur, Badirapar Part VI area surrounding a banyan tree that has been axed down. The local Hindus got irked after the tree was axed down. They stated that this was a sacred tree they have been worshipping for decades. They blamed the local Muslims and alleged that the tree was intentionally cut down in order to hurt their religious sentiments.
This fuming scenario converted into a brawl between the two communities earlier today. To control the same, Police officials in huge numbers rushed to the spot. Additional SP of Cachar, Subrata Sen also reached the spot. CRPF Jawans along with the state forces managed to distance the two communities engaged in the brawl.
Circle Officer, Udharbond Aditi Nunisa, Additional SP Border, Pradeep Kanowar, Udharbond OC among others are also at the spot.
As per the latest available information, the situation is still tense. The officials from the Police and Administration have called for peace meetings involving guardians from both parties. They are trying to broker peace without using force, however, if the situation takes a worse turn, the security officials will be bound to take action as per law is what the department is stating.
Meanwhile, why the tree located adjacent to the main road got axed down remains a mystery.
