"Congress - AIUDF alliance will win 12 seats in Barak Valley," Badaruddin Azmal
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Badaruddin Ajmal is in Silchar. He has come for a four-day visit. A member of the Indian Parliament from Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency, Ajmal said his visit is related to the upcoming assembly elections.
“We are certain that there will be a mahagathbandhan (alliance) between AIUDF and All India Congress. We will contest the poll together,” said Ajmal. Adding “Congress – AIUDF alliance will win 12 seats in Barak Valley in the Assembly elections in 2021.”
Ajmal said he will attend a Markaz and then vet a few candidates whom AIUDF can field to contest. “We have not decided how many seats we will contest. I am in touch with Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and together we will work something out soon,” said AIUDF supremo.
He said that the people of Assam have seen how the current BJP government has failed them in every aspect including NRC. “Now they are begging for one more term, one more chance. They have failed with NRC, they have failed to keep up their promise of Jati Mati Bheti and now the people will reject them. We will form the cabinet after the election and fulfill the promise of people,” said Ajmal.
He singled out Himanta Biswa Sarma and said the NEDA chief is behind the ongoing border skirmish between Assam and Mizoram. He also said, “Each time there is an election, Himanta Biswa Sarma falls in love with Pakistan and Bangladesh. This time, after facing a heavy defeat in the upcoming elections, Sarma might seek shelter in his favourite Pakistan or Bangladesh. I am a son of Assam and will be in the next cabinet.”
There is an ongoing debate in the state about a “Miyan Museum” and Ajmal said he is against any such demand. “Whoever is demanding a Miyan Museum is doing damage to society. We are against it…” he added.
