COVID Death: "Wake up call for Cachar;" Keerthi Jalli; "Maximum vaccination required," S Lakshmanan
Today evening, a 50-year-old male resident of Cachar district’s Dayapur area has breathed his last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He had tested positive for COVID 19 on March 17 and was subsequently admitted to the COVID ward in the hospital.
Principal Dr. Babul Bezbaruah confirmed that the 50-year-old is no more. He was admitted to the hospital with cough and bloody expectoration The patient was diagnosed to be suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. This is the first time Cachar has reported death since January 3, 2021.
While speaking with Barak Bulletin, Director – National Health Mission – Assam, Dr. S Lakshmanan said, “Maximum people need to get vaccinated.” The director added, “We have been urging the general public to volunteer in the vaccination drive. The people who have co-morbidities need to get vaccinated as soon as possible. There are vaccination zones available in all the places across the state.”
He also stressed the necessity of following the COVID protocols. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli echoed Lakshmanan and urged the residents of the district to volunteer in vaccination.
She asserted, “I understand that the people are fearing another set of lockdowns, but I would request them to fear COVID more.”
About the death in Cachar, DC Jalli said, “It is shocking.” She added, “At the same time, this is a wake call for Cachar district. Most importantly I want to reach out to the public and urge them to treat this death as a wake-up call for a possible second wave. Precaution is the only way out.”
