Since the start of the vaccination drive all over the nation including Cachar district on January 16, many frontline health workers and security forces have taken part in its first and second phase respectively. The third phase is kept for officials participating in the upcoming election duty. On Thursday evening, Cachar DC Keerti Jalli, Superintendent B. L. Meena and other officials came to the Silchar Civil Hospital to get themselves vaccinated.
At around 3 pm, Cachar DC along with others got administered doses of Covishield vaccine. The health workers present there asked the DC and other officials to take some rest after getting vaccinated but they were too busy to stop & rest owing to the rush of ongoing election duty and left soon after. But there were no adverse side effects noticed after consuming the doses of Covishield vaccine, according to them.
After getting out of the vaccination site, they claimed that they were feeling quite okay. They appealed to government and police officials to come out and take part in this vaccination process. DC said, “The health department has decided this date for us to get vaccinated through this app. Earlier many senior doctors and healthcare workers have gotten the dose of vaccination and they are perfectly in a fit condition as of now. Today, when I took the vaccine myself and realized, I can say from my experience that it has no side effects. Everyone participating in the election is requested to be vaccinated. Standing here today, I am requesting them again, about a month prior to the election and everyone should get the vaccine as soon as possible. Infection is on the rise in different parts of the country. The more we are ready, the better. ”
SP B. L. Meena said, “Several of our officers have been infected with the coronavirus and have already recovered. Police officers will play an important role in this election, so their protection is a matter of utmost importance to us. Today I have taken the vaccine and I request every police officer to take the vaccine too. Other department officials will join the process in the future. ”
The first covid vaccine in the Cachar district was administered to Dr. Juri Sharma, an ENT doctor at the Civil Hospital. She was accompanied by nine other doctors and nurses at the hospital who were part of this historic moment with the vaccine. Later, the principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Dr. Babul Bezbarua, Padmashri Awardee Dr. Ravi Kannan and various health workers too got vaccinated in the first phase.
