DEEO Hailakandi suspends Assitant Teacher Asish Das for his alleged political links, side business and faulty ITR Statement

A primary school teacher has been suspended by the District Elementary Education Officer of Hailakandi for his alleged political links and side business as a contractor. The teacher was suspended by the Education Officer of the District on September 30 also for his alleged Income Tax Return Fraud. The teacher Ashish Das is a teacher at the 807, Appin R A LP School and has been posted as an Assistant Teacher since 2012.

The teacher was allegedly also working as a contractor along with different businesses aside from his teaching profession. That was the main reason behind his suspension as mentioned in a notice published by the District Elementary Education Office of Hailakandi.

During the Gunotsav, the teacher in question also met the Education Minister of Assam as a representative of Karimganj MP Kripanath Malla. This meeting also exposes his alleged active political connections.

The order issued by the Elementary Education Officer of Hailakandi mentioned, “Being an Assistant Teacher of LP School he has been taken Cl/Leave from duty and attend at Guwahati) to meet in a group with different Hon’ble Ministers, Govt. of Assam, Political Personel by introducing himself as representative of Hon’ble M.P, Karimganj Constituency whose photographs have also shown to me by different outsiders”.

The order also mentioned him working as a contractor and said, “Whereas being an Asstt. Teacher of LP School, he engaged himself with Uniform suppliers, viz R.R. Agency, Karimganj and had pressurize various Principal/ Headmasters of High/HSS of Hailakandi Dist, to issue tender in favour of R.R. Agency to supply the uniform to the schools”.

About his political powers the order undesigned by the Assam Education Service Officer mentioned, “Whereas being a teacher, he had put a complaint against the then BEEO, Katlicherra, Sri Riaz Uddin Barbhuiya and attend before the enquiry officer to submit the written statement and thereafter he actively engaged himself to transfer Riaz Uddin Barbhulya from Katlicherra to Karimganj District and ultimately did this and like way he always threatened various officer under Education Department to transfer them to other district with the help of his political power”.

Mentioning his meet with the Education Minister of Assam during Gunotsav 2022, the order mentioned, “Whereas on the day of Gunotsav-2022, when Hon’ble Education Minister, Govt. of Assam visited Cachar District, he meet with Hon’ble Minister of Education by introducing himself as representative of Hon’ble MP, Karimganj whose photo has also been viral through media”.

The District Elementary Officer also mentioned about complaints received agaisngt the suspended teacher and said, “Some complainant of Katlicherra area who had complained that Asish Das is engaged in works of public construction which is violation of recent announcement of Govt. against the teachers to avoid themselves in other works except teaching profession”.

It has also been alleged that the Assitant Teacher has purchased an Urban Cruiser luxury car. The order in this regards mentioned he, “failed to submit the source of earning money to purchase the luxury car but his monthly salary statement shows that he is getting rupees 36,838 Per month with which he is not capable to purchase a luxury car by maintaining family and the said Income mismatched with his regular maintaince”.

Considering these allegations against Asish Das, a teacher under the Katlicherra Education Block, the District Elementary Education Officer has placed this teacher under suspension. The letter concluded, “During suspension period he (Asish Das) is entitled to get subsistence allowance as per rule.”
