Devastating Landslide Claims Five Lives, including a 3-year-old in Karimganj

Torrential rain has led to a catastrophic landslide in the Badarpur area of Karimganj district, resulting in the tragic death of five members of a single family. The incident occurred in the village of Tajuratol in the Bandarghol area of Karimganj at around midnight. Continuous heavy rain triggered the landslide, causing the collapse of the family’s home.

Last night, five people of Abdul Karim’s family died in the unfortunate accident. The deceased have been identified as Raimunnessa (55) the wife of Abdul Karim, their daughters daughters Saheda Khanam (18), Jaheda Khanam (16), Hamida Khanam (11), and grandson Mehedi Hasan (3). These 5 people died suffocating under the debris of the landslide that collapsed their home, the room they were sleeping in.

Local authorities, including Badarpur police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), rushed to the scene to conduct rescue operations. The SDRF has been working tirelessly to recover the bodies from under the debris. Following this devastating incident, Abdul Karim said, “I came home at around 11 and as soon as I lay down on the bed, I passed out from sleep. Suddenly I heard a huge crashing sound, I immediately understood that my home was under the debris of a landslide. As soon as I opened the door, I saw one person from my family stuck under my fallen home, somehow I could save her and the rest five perished under the landslide”.

The relentless rainfall has been blamed for this devastating event, highlighting the severe impact of extreme weather conditions on vulnerable areas.
The community mourns the loss of five lives in this tragic event, underscoring the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and response mechanisms in the region.
