Dholai: Cachar Police Arrests Mayjul Ali Laskar for Attempt to Rape Minor Outside School

Mayajul Ali Laskar, the shopkeeper who has allegedly molested and attempted to rape a 13-year-old schoolgirl inside his shop in the Lailapur area of Dholai constituency was arrested last night. After an FIR was lodged at the Lailapur Police Patrol Post on September 15, the Cachar Police launched a proper and arrested the VDP Secretary and the accused in the case.

Lailapur Police arrested Mayajul Ali Laskar, on September 16, after her father filed an FIR. The incident, which occurred on September 3, left the young girl traumatised, too fearful to return to school, and unable to confide in her family. It was only after six days of missed classes, along with growing concern from her teachers, that she revealed the disturbing details.

The arrest was made soon after the father lodged the complaint on September 15, following the victim’s disclosure at school. The accused had allegedly threatened the girl, warning that he would release videos of her in a compromised position if she dared to tell anyone about the assault.

The accused, who is also a Secretary of the Village Defence Party (VDP) and involved with the Bharatiya Janata Party, allegedly molested the girl when she visited his shop to purchase a pen. Mayajul Ali Laskar reportedly forced her inside, touched her inappropriately, and attempted to undress her before she managed to escape by biting his hand. Despite the trauma, she initially stayed silent out of fear, revealing the incident only after he further threatened her a few days later.

The girl’s silence was finally broken on September 12, when she confided in her science teacher at school. This led to an emotional scene, with the headmaster, Zia Uddin Laskar, and several staff members moving to tears by the revelation. “She’s an excellent student, and to know this happened to her is devastating,” said the headmaster. “We failed to protect her near our own school, and now we must act to make sure this never happens again.”

The community including the teachers at the school and locals have demanded an exemplary punishment of the accused.
