DRM Joginder Singh Lakhra suggests upgradation of Silchar Railway Station to "World Class" facility

NF Railways has planned to upgrade the Silchar railway station with ‘world class’ facility to give it a much-required facelift, stated the divisional railway manager of the Northeast Frontier Railway, Joginder Singh Lakhra.

During an inspection on Tuesday, in the Silchar station, Lakhra announced that the railway department has taken up several initiatives to transform the entire structural framework of the station to make it technologically advanced in order to provide excellent facilities.

The Railways has decided to upgrade some of the facilities, prominent among them being foot-overbridges, waiting halls, parking lots, separate entry exits and other amenities for passengers.

The top official further said that the railway is aware of the demands of trains in this region, but due to a lack of rolling stock, they cannot augment facilities. “We keep sending demands of LHB rakes to the board and as soon as they reach us we operationalize it,” Lakra said.

DRM toured the entire Silchar railway station on Tuesday and reviewed the operation of the station. DRM also noted the cleanliness of the station premise and directed the officials to maintain strict standards.

The official further mentioned that electrification work on the Lumding Badarpur section and Agartala Badarpur section is going on at full pace. Once the electric lines are commissioned, more advanced trains like MEMUs can be operated here. “These trains cut short the travel time” Lakra stated.
