The Yoga Centre will conduct training sessions at the Satindra Mohan Deb Stadium ground and its adjacent gallery on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Sunday sessions will run six times (6:00–7:00 AM, 7:00–8:00 AM, and 8:00–9:00 PM), while Tuesdays and Thursdays will offer four sessions (6:00–7:00 AM, 7:00–8:00 AM, 6:00–7:00 PM, and 7:00–8:00 PM).
Admission fees ₹1,000, with a monthly fee of ₹500 has been fixed. Limited seats will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, with experienced instructor Chandan Dev from Silchar Jatiya Bayam Vidyalay leading the sessions.
The ceremony featured Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty as the special guest, who emphasized the importance of yoga in everyday life. “Yoga is not just a physical exercise; it is a way of life that fosters mental, physical, and spiritual well-being,” he remarked, applauding the initiative as a source of inspiration for the youth and the larger community to embrace a healthier lifestyle.
The chief guest, Pankaj Purkayastha, a legendary ex-bodybuilder and fitness icon, lauded DSA’s efforts, stating, “This Yoga Centre will be a beacon of hope for individuals seeking holistic health. Initiatives like these shape the future of sports and fitness culture in our district.”
Adding depth to the occasion, former DSA president Babul Hore shared how yoga complements all forms of physical training. “Yoga enhances flexibility, endurance, and mental focus, essential traits for athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike,” he noted, encouraging young athletes to incorporate yoga into their routines.
Mithun Roy, Secretary of DSA’s Physical Wing, extended heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this dream a reality. “This Yoga Centre is a testament to our dedication to promoting health and fitness in the community,” he said. “We envision it as a space where people of all ages can come together to experience the transformative benefits of yoga.”
The event highlighted yoga’s global significance, tracing its ancient Indian roots and recognition on the world stage through the UN’s designation of June 21 as World Yoga Day, initiated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. The Barak Valley has also embraced this movement, with the DSA spearheading efforts to integrate yoga into Silchar’s cultural and physical development.
DSA Secretary Atanu Bhattacharya revealed that the idea for the yoga center emerged from the proactive vision of Mithun Roy. With swift action, approval from the Governing Body (GB), and a structured set of by-laws, the center has been established to ensure discipline and professionalism. A dress code has been introduced to promote uniformity among trainees.
The event concluded with a tour of the state-of-the-art facility, equipped with modern amenities and a serene environment. Attendees expressed optimism about the center’s potential to foster a healthier and more vibrant community.
The inauguration of the DSA Yoga Centre marks a visionary step in promoting a culture of fitness and wellness in Silchar, setting the stage for a healthier future for the district.
