"Extension of Vistadome Express upto Silchar not feasible" : Railway Minister informs Parliament

Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy today asked three questions to the Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on the floor of the Parliament. He firstly asked whether the Vistadome Tourist Express which has been started from Guwahati to Badarpur junction has been successful and the details thereof.

He secondly asked whether there is great demand for extending the said route till Silchar and the details thereof. His third query was whether there is any possibility to extend the route from Badarpur to Silchar and if so, the time by which the project is likely to start.

Replying to his first query, the Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written statement told the Parliament that the overall average utilization of Train number 15887/15888 Guwahati – Badarpur Tourist Express for the period 13/11/2021 to 2/3/2023 is 70.52% and 86.22% respectively.

Replying to the second and third query of the MP, the Minister in the written statement answered that the request for increasing the frequency/extension of vistadome has been received from the MP. The same has been examined. However, extension of 15888/87 Guwahati-Badarpur Express upto Silchar is not feasible at present due to operational constraints including inadequate lie-over of the train at Badarpur. Besides, the increase in frequency of 15888/87 Guwahati-Badarpur Express is also operationally not feasible.
